Plenty of changes are afoot at Six Flags over Texas, with 2022 being a big year for the park. Both Aquaman Power Wave and Pirates of Speelunker Cave are set to open this year, along with a slew of other ongoing projects such as completely retooling the entry plaza and tons of smaller capital improvements throughout.

Entry Plaza Changes

The initial covered area now acts as both security screening and admission. The process couldn’t have been faster. The old admission booths have been removed, creating a much more open, cohesive entry plaza. QR codes plastered everywhere heavily encourage guests to buy your tickets online rather than wait in line at one of the few remaining ticket booths.

Without the entry booths the entry plaza feels much more open and less congested.

Pirates of Speelunker Cave

The themed pirate ship and cave entry has been completed and honestly looks pretty good. Lots of work on the queue line and loading dock too as some reports indicate it will be significantly reworked from Yosemite Sam’s layout.

Aquaman Power Wave Update

Construction does appear to be progressing on Aquaman whether it seems like it or not. The late change to a turntable loading station for increased rider throughput really mucked up plans causing much of the delay.

Progress slowly continues. Forms for the water area appear to be going up.

Food, Get your Food Here

Themed characters have been strategically placed near the entrance of several restaurants, calling out to passerby’s to drum up interest in the food. For example, 50s-era people at Johnny Rockets, cheerleaders at the All-American Cafe, and western folk at JB’s Barbecue. It’s an interesting tactic.

Texas SkyScreamer Flying Experience

The Texas SkyScreamer flying experience continues to be offered, allowing riders (for an upcharge) to soar 400 feet in the area attached to harnesses instead of the regular seats. We didn’t see anyone partaking during our visit.

Random Other Things

The park added single rider lines to several rides including Batman and New Texas Giant. The park has also continued its painting spree, completing the new paint job on Mr. Freeze and on various buildings throughout Texas and Boomtown.
