Six Flags over Texas celebrated its 60th anniversary Thursday by announcing that Aquaman: Power Wave would not be the only new attraction in 2022. Pirates of Speelunker Cave will also open next year, filling the defunct Yosemite Sam dark ride with a mixture of unique park nostalgia and new technology.

Touted by the park as a state-of-the-art attraction that will place guests squarely in the middle of a pirate treasure hunt thwarted by resident Speelunkers, the attraction is sure to have some guests reminiscing of the original “The Cave” ride which featured the Speelunkers from 1964 to 1991.

The Speelunkers hold a somewhat legendary status at Six Flags over Texas, with seemingly endless calls from nostalgic park guests wanting the original characters brought back to the park in some fashion. This new attraction should satisfy that itch, implanting the peculiar trouble-causing characters back in their original home.

Attraction Features

  • 17 brand-new scenes combining modern cinematic projections with immersive sets and animatronics
  • 26 6-passenger boats
  • Cinema-style, wide-projection technology to fully immerse riders with high-tech digital/physical sets

Pirates of Speelunker Cave is set to open in early 2022, before Aquaman’s slated opening in the summer.
