The American Coaster Enthusiasts recently had their annual, regional Winterfest event at Six Flags over Texas and a few quick noteworthy items were announced.

Aquaman: Power Wave Splashdown

Aquaman Power Wave Rendering

Aquaman: Power Wave has been delayed to a 2022 opening, but for good reason. The park is working with the manufacturer to add a turntable loading system that will allow for 2-boat operation. The turntable was originally not part of the ride’s plans, resulting in a lot of criticism that the ride would have low capacity and long lines.

The turntable will allow one boat to cycle through the shuttle layout while another boat simultaneously unloads/loads new passengers.

Though the ride will now be delayed another year, it’s obviously a change in the right direction to avoid another low-volume ride in one of the busiest areas of the park.

Yosemite Sam's removal

Fences blocking off Yosemite Sam’s station

The other interesting news is that Yosemite Sam’s is not dead, at least not totally. The ride, which was in a sad state of disrepair even before reportedly suffering additional water damage from late 2018 flooding, has been standing-but-not-operating since 2019. Park officials confirmed the water dark ride (one of the oldest at the park) would live on, though likely with a different theme after extensive refurbishing. Could it finally be the return of the Speelunkers?
