2025 is underway and so is the removal of La Vibora and El Diablo. We visited the park on the first day of the New Year to see how both rides’ removals were going.
As was previously announced, both rides are being removed to make way for a record-breaking dive coaster in 2026.
La Vibora’s removal is slowly but steadily progressing. Peeking through the perimeter fence just before the entrance gives the best view of removed track waiting to be trucked away.
The removal process consists of torching triangular cutouts into the sections, which are then used as hoisting locations to lift sections away after they’re cut free.
Pieces are obviously not being preserved, dashing any hopes of the ride being reconstructed somewhere else. Replacement parts for the 41-year-old ride were likely difficult and expensive to acquire, and as we’ve previously mentioned, the ride itself has a low-capacity and would need to close in any amount of precipitation. As rare of a ride as La Vibora was, it clearly did not make sense to continue operating it to the park’s new management.
La Vibora’s station and queue line are also slowly being deconstructed, with various railings already removed. The on-ride photo stand also had its equipment and signage taken away.
On the other hand, El Diablo’s removal hasn’t progressed much at all. Some surrounding railings and signs have been removed but the ride itself still stands in-tact.
In addition to La Vibora and El Diablo being removed, the Six Flags Railroad will be impacted throughout 2025 due to its engine house being demolished. It was closed during our visit and employees have reported they do not know when it’s expected to reopen. The engine house plays a crucial role in maintaining the train engines and it’s possible a new one will have to be constructed before the railroad reopens. Even after a new engine house is built, the railroad still passes right through the area where the new coaster is going, so the new ride’s construction will likely continue to force its closure.
In the meantime, Six Flags over Texas is expected to make a more formal and detailed announcement for the new-for-2026 attraction sometime in mid-2025. As always, we will continue to follow the deconstruction of existing rides and ultimately the construction of the new one.
