Six Flags over Texas’ summer season has officially began, and we visited the park to get the latest updates on the New for 2024 attractions. We arrived on the morning of Saturday, June 1 with scattered storms forecasted. The park has been plagued with bad weather several times already this year, causing early closures, flooding, and storm damage.
Dino Off Road Adventure
The park’s replacement for Chaparral Antique Cars, Dino Off Road Adventure progress continues with most (if not all) the dinosaurs installed along the course. The ride is still badly in need of foliage around the perimeter to improve immersion. Hopefully that will be part of the the new drive-through dinosaur attraction. Sources claim the ride could open as soon as the next few weeks, which would align well with the park’s intended “early summer” opening.

Bugs Bunny Boomtown Construction
The other significant new-for-2024 attractions are still underway with a large portion of Bugs Bunny Boomtown under construction. The tower structure for Sylvester and Tweety Pounce and Bounce is installed and the boats are in place for Daffy Duck Bucket Blasters. The rides have necessitated a significant tear-up of the area, resulting in Bugs Bunny Boomtown being temporarily separated into two areas.

Texas Justice Show
The popular Texas Justice show is back on the Texas Courthouse stage. New for 2024 is also the return of the classic Train Robbery on the Railroad, featuring gunslinging actors on horses.

These may surprisingly be all there is entertainment-wise due to the park seemingly not announcing or advertising other shows this summer, particularly at the Southern Palace, the park’s last remaining, operating indoor theater. Not having a show in Southern Palace is quite a blow to options the park has to shelter from the heat for a bit.
Boomtown Bar
The park has erected supports for the permanent structure for Boomtown Bar. A temporary location in front of Mini Mine Train is available in the interim.

Other Observations
Speedy Parking
Added to the park for 2024, Speedy Parking continues to have a bizarre implementation. Initially introduced as an add-on, the system claims faster entry to the park by allowing automated scanning of license plates and admittance to the lot. Its initial introduction in early 2024 was met with mass confusion (in part due to poor signage/awareness) and the dedicated “speedy” lanes being clogged with guests that did not purchase Speedy Parking. It was not the rapid, automated entry it promised to be.

Fast forward half a year and the current iteration isn’t much better. Six Flags ultimately submitted to the loud feedback, making Speedy Parking a free add-on and converting all lanes to Speedy Parking lanes. Which of course means it’s completely pointless, since any car in any lane may or may not have pre-registered their vehicle, creating the same bottlenecks as always. Despite our vehicle being registered and active, on both our visits to Six Flags parks, we still had to provide our pass to scan and get in the lot. It’s truly strange to see the park chain invest in such a system and then implement it in such a way that voids all the purported benefits. Hopefully the park will continue to tweak the lanes to actually reap the system’s purpose.
Picnic Areas
The future of the classic, popular picnic areas at the park continues to be a mystery. They are mostly closed, with the parking-lot side being completely shut off while the park-side being mostly taped off.

Over 2 years ago we captured pictures of signs claiming picnic area updates were coming in 2023. It’s simple to theorize the park may not want to ever refurb and reopen the picnic areas, and instead push people toward dining in the park.

Around the Park
The park continues to refurbish restrooms, with the Mexico & Spain restrooms remaining closed and the Gotham restrooms (near Johnny Rockets) reopening.

Visit Wrap-Up
Poor weather, especially on otherwise-busy holidays, is undoubtedly impacting park revenue this season, which might explain the lack of entertainment and ride closures being reported. We’ll continue to monitor construction and progress on Dino Off Road Adventure and the new Bugs Bunny Boomtown rides, as well as other park updates, news, and rumors.
