A little over a month after it was announced with minimal details, it now appears El Rio Lento may not be happening at all. Six Flags over Texas seems to have quietly cancelled the new-for-2024 attraction, removing all references to it from the official website, but not yet offering any official confirmation of the cancellation.

Amusement news and rumor site Screamscape initially blamed ongoing corporate drama, but other sources claiming close ties with the park instead blame engineering challenges that were later found, making the project to combine both flumes into a single one unfeasible. The park may fall back to simply refurbishing the two flumes, a necessary but less marketable project.

It certainly makes sense that the ride may have been prematurely announced to coincide with the chain-wide attraction reveal, given the lack of details or concept art at the announcement and ongoing rumors.

The new-for-2024 attraction’s apparent cancellation has clearly frustrated some park enthusiasts, with the park having relatively few major investments in recent years amidst numerous corporate shakeups.
