Spinsanity Rides Again During Late July Park Updates

As Texas’ heat wave continues, the resulting drought of theme park crowds was blazingly obvious during our visit to Six Flags over Texas on Sunday, July 24th. The longest wait we experienced was for La Vibora, at most 10 minutes. Most other rides were 1-train waits to walk-ons.

First off, updates to the main entry continue. The park has added some peculiar word art next to the wall fountain and a large “That’s All Folks” photo op next to the new Looney Tunes/DC Comics gift shop (formerly the Flash Pass store).

I’m still on the fence for the pastel color scheme for Carousel.

The former Looney Tunes Mall, now Six Flags Universe, now has some signage along the new façade.

Aquaman Power Wave Construction

Aquaman continues to slowly make progress. Some of the trough has been painted, and additional equipment for the water gates installed.

Despite Aquaman’s delay to a 2023 opening, the park is still handing out maps advertising 2 new rides…

The Eagle Lands

The eagle (or an eagle?) has majestically returned to Indian Village Buffalo Trading Post roof after being missing for quite some time.

These Pretzels are Making Me Thirsty

Auntie Anne’s has finally opened up in the USA section of the park, in front of Justice League.

 

Speelunker Cave’s Unique Rides

After our previous disappointing ride on Pirates of Speelunker Cave, we decided to see if anything had improved. The lighting situation had indeed improved, but there’s still plenty of motionless animatronics. The wall of water that threatened to soak you before the battle scene was completely off. The battle scene was oddly quiet and inactive. Each ride seems to have something new not working (this time it was the dinner table scene, amongst several others). Hopefully the park continues to work out the mechanical kinks of the odd and unique ride.

Heat Wave Continues

A strategically-placed water hose cleverly forces guests not wanting to get wet closer to the games.

What was once a caricature stand in the France section is now a seating area, which may seem a little bizarre until you realize it’s being air conditioned.

The restroom between USA and France has also been themed (or at least named):

Justice League

We hadn’t ridden Justice League in forever so we decided to take a spin. I suppose they’ve completely given up on 3D, as glasses weren’t being handed out (perhaps a holdover from Covid). While that might be fine for most, the final few 3D-heavy projection scenes now just look horribly blurry and dim. One of the blasters in our car wasn’t working at all. The final screen (showing your score and how you ranked in your car) was inoperable. Many other minor issues have persisted since the ride’s initial opening, but at least the fire effect was working.

Spinsanity Rides Again

Despite every sign pointing to the ride being on its way out, Harley Quinn Spinsanity had reopened and was operating. And no, it’s still not listed on the park map. Perhaps that’s why they’re still claiming “2 new rides” opening in 2022?

Judge Roy Scream Back Open

Judge Roy Scream is back open and surprisingly smooth. It’s still a wooden coaster so there will always be some jostling, but the jackhammering at the bottom of the first 2 drops is gone and its back to being an overall pleasant ride. Whatever refurbishments the park has been making has shown worthwhile.

Fright Fest Preparations Begin

Finally, it may still be late July but the park is already starting to advertise (and hire for) one of its largest events — Fright Fest.
