Six Flags over Texas Weather FAQs
How does weather affect Six Flags over Texas rides?
Weather can affect ride operations in many ways. As temperatures dip below 50°F, certain roller coasters may be closed due to the cold affecting how wheels can spin and increasing the risk of trains valleying. At the other extreme, high temperatures have impacted coaster operation, such as Mr. Freeze occasionally closing in the middle of summer days to help save power during peak demand times.
High winds will also shut down tall rides, particularly Oil Derrick, Texas SkyScreamer, and taller roller coasters such as Titan and Mr. Freeze.
Rain and storms can have a big impact on ride operations, especially if lightning is involved. Every ride at Six Flags over Texas is assigned a weather code that relates to how susceptible it is to storms and lightning. Ride operations constantly monitors weather radar and will shut down attractions most at risk (such as tall rides) first if storms approach or pass by the park within a certain radius. Short, indoor, and covered rides are usually last to close due to rain or storms.
Attending the park on a day with light or scattered showers can deter the crowds, but you’ll probably want to avoid the park if significant storms, wind, or lightning is forecasted.
Does Six Flags over Texas close due to weather?
Yes, the park has been known to completely close down if poor weather conditions are expected or develop throughout the day. Visitors should check both the official park schedule and the park’s Facebook page for the latest information regarding parkwide closures.
