The David Blackburn Southern Palace Theater is Six Flags over Texas’ largest indoor theater, not to mention one of the oldest entertainment venues in the park. Originally an open-air amphitheater, the Southern Palace was converted into an indoor, 950-seat theater for the 1968 season where it has entertained countless guests in the Old South & France section ever since.
The theater was named after David T. Blackburn, a long-time producer and creator of shows throughout Six Flags history.
Some of the park’s most elaborate musical and theater productions take place in Southern Palace, where its air conditioning is always appreciated during the summer months.
2025 Renovation
Southern Palace was closed throughout 2025 for a multi-phase renovation project, refurbishing the exterior and interior of the venue. Southern Palace reopened for Fright Fest to feature the new Toxicity show.
When the renovation is complete in 2026, the premier entertainment venue will feature theater-style seats for the first time in its history, replacing the old bench seats.
