Two significant pieces of Six Flags over Texas news came out this week.

First up, in an email sent to passholders, the park announced that the two new Bugs Bunny Boomtown attractions—Daffy Duck Bucket Blasters and Sylvester and Tweety Pounce and Bounce—will be opening Friday, July 12. The park had initially claimed a Memorial Day opening for the 2 new children attractions, but an abnormally rainy spring undoubtedly contributed to delays. Our last update in early June showed progress on the rides which required a significant tear-up of the back section of the Bugs Bunny Boomtown.

More interestingly, Six Flags corporate announced that Fright Fest 2024 will be known as Fright Fest Extreme (at least at 2 parks, more on that in a bit) and incorporate IP from several big-time horror movie franchises including Saw, Stranger Things, Army of the Dead, The Conjuring, Annabelle, The Nun, and Trick ‘r’ Treat. It’s a clear indication that the chain wants to compete and partner with popular movie and streaming brands for its Halloween celebration, similar to what Universal Studios has done for years with Halloween Horror Nights.

A careful reading of the official press release, however, reveals that just three Six Flags parks are specifically mentioned: Six Flags Magic Mountain in California, Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, and Six Flags Mexico.

But there is still hope for Six Flags over Texas Fright Fest fans. The release clarifies that a mix of the mazes (listed below) “will also be available at additional Six Flags parks,” seeming to imply other parks (such as Six Flags over Texas) may also receive some of the themed haunts. Only time will tell what (if anything) Six Flags over Texas ends up getting.
