The American Coaster Enthusiasts recently announced that Six Flags over Texas’ Shock Wave roller coaster is set to become an ACE Roller Coaster Landmark in 2025. The classic, Schwarzkopf-built coaster debuted in 1978 with several innovations, but perhaps none more significant than the still-used method of heartlining–or rotating the track about the riders’ hearts to better control forces and create a smoother ride.

The ACE Roller Coaster Landmark program launched in 2000, designating rides of significant historical importance. A display plaque is presented to the park for display upon the designation being made.

Currently the only other roller coaster in Texas with the designation is the Runaway Mine Train. Shock Wave will get a similar plaque later this year to that of Mine Train’s (pictured below), during its 47th year of operation.
