In addition to adding Aquaman: Power Wave, Six Flags over Texas will have another big change in 2020: year-round operation. Effectively it means the park will be open weekends and holidays throughout the year. Given the park’s off-season has been shrinking over the years anyway, the biggest difference will be in January and February when the park is typically closed in preparation for the next season.

The park announced the big change would be effective immediately, meaning Six Flags over Texas will continue to operate weekly after this year’s Holiday in the Park.

What it Means

One interesting change could be the possible impact on employees. In the past the park classified its workers as seasonal due to releasing most at the conclusion of a season and having a rehiring event in the spring. This change could impact how the park’s employees are classified and what benefits or pay they’re eligible for.

Another potential impact will be ride downtime. Some sort of longer closure is necessary for many rides, as annual rehabilitation and inspections can take several weeks or more. With the off-season effectively eliminated, the park will likely either need to rotate ride closures throughout the year or continue to close certain rides during the slower winter months.

Changing to year-round operation will bring Six Flags over Texas closer in-line with other theme parks that have mild winters, such as most parks in California and Florida, and will help it to compete.
